March is the second round of Goemarati shows, with performances taking place on Church Square in the Cape Town CBD on Wednesday the 28th of March at 5pm and at the Alliance Francaise in Mitchell's Plain on Saturday the 31st of March at 330pm.
Goemarati is a series of shows taking place in venues across Cape Town City between February and August this year. Once a month on Church Square, below Parliament and behind the NG Kerk in the centre of town, and once a month at a venue on the Cape Flats, including Bonteheuwel, Khayelitsha, Manenberg, Langa, Mitchell's Plain and Kalkfontein. It is a series of concerts about trying to reveal the city in its diversity of music, poetry and food.
This months featured poet is Teba, best known in his regga dancehall form and as The Social Worker. For Goemarati he goes solo and presents his poetry. Great to see him in a difference guise.
The featured band for March is the strikingly bald and bold Blaq Pearl and her five piece band. They're on a soul R&B tip, with all original songs.
Both acts play both shows.Entrance is free.
A food market will be selling not-usually-seen Cape Town foods, at not usually seen prices!
Teba and Blaq Pearl's CDs will be available for sale.
For more, go to www.goema.co.za
Goemarati is a project of Creative Cape Town. Funded by the Department of Economic Development and Tourism. Produced by Coffee Beans Routes.
Goemarati. You are welcome.

South Atlantic Jazz Music Conference 2007
South Atlantic Jazz Music Conference 2007
The Cape Town International Jazz Festival wishes to inform you about the 2nd annual South Atlantic Jazz Music Conference, taking place on Thursday, 29 March at the Cape Sun Hotel, Cape Town. Hosted on the day preceding the Festival, the Conference will provide a dynamic platform for dialogue between local and international jazz practitioners, and create unique networking opportunities within the industry.
The 2007 Conference seeks to expand on the outcomes and recommendations from 2006 with a strong emphasis on combining efforts to strengthen the future of jazz. A focus of the Conference will be a presentation of a ‘conceptual’ model of a Sector Body Initiative for the music industry, currently being used by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to strengthen initiatives in the Film and Craft industries. Aligned to this, the benefits of building relationships with national music industry organisations will also be highlighted.
The Conference further seeks to achieve tangible outcomes that will impact on the economic development of the music industry, thus focusing on discussions around live music opportunities, education, media influences and the current digital environment.
International jazz organisations and festivals will be represented at the conference, alongside key South African stakeholders in the jazz music industry and related business sectors. The programme will include two plenary sessions, followed by parallel break-away sessions, allowing industry stakeholders to participate in and contribute to discussions. The conference will run from 09h30 (registration to commence at 08h30) until 16h30.
Registration for the Conference is R300 per delegate and this includes teas and lunches, as well as entry to the DuoTones Photographic Exhibition. Please find an RSVP form to be returned to our offices by no later than 16 March 2007. Payment details are also included on this form, and invoices will be sent on request.
We hope that you will be able to join us in this exciting initiative.
Thank you and good wishes
